Hello all, as a young boy (50 years ago),i used to fish the Moyola, near the ford at Mulnavoo rd:/Tobermore rd: in those days, you literally could catch fish on the "bent pin" however,i hear reports that now the river,(in the upper reaches) is polluted and the fish are scarce,is this so ?
Henry its great to hear these stories.Fish are scarce no doubt but its the same story in all rivers.Moyola would be still a clean river as far as pollution is concerened.
Salmon are in big decline and the scientists blame it mostly on global warming.
We would still have fairly good Trout fishing.

The competition report for the Diamond Service Station Cup fished for on the 10th of March.  Condition were very good for both bait and fly anglers. We had 23 senior and 8 juniors out which was great for this time of year. 1st place went to Joey ONeill bait fishing, joint 2nd place went to Philip Maguire and Barry Diamond both on bait and 3rd place went to Brian Bigmore on the fly. Our best junior went to last years overall winner Joseph Speirs so a good start to the season for all these winners. Our next competition the Ciaran Duffin Memorial Cup is on Saturday the 31st of March. Any one wishing to go to Dunfanaghy on our weekend away on the 28th and 29th of April let me know as soon as posable.
TIGHT LINES.

Agreed with Philip! Great to be back. Just hope the game fishers can beat the course men this year. Round one to the course fishermen but still plenty of time. Come on Tommy - your club needs you!

In again for another season as competition secretary,  our first competition is this saturday, First up is The Diamond Service Station Cup,Conditions look good for the bait men but dont rule out the fly men. Last year overall winner Philip Maguire will be trying to make it two in a row but i think a few men will be trying to do something about that. Any junior wishing to take part in any of our competition this year must have a guardian consent form filled in and signed by a parent before they can participate in a competition. So i wish everyone tight lines this season, This is also the Moyola angling clubs 30th year of competitions. Our very first club competition The White Shield all those years a go was won by Morris Dorrity and in second place was Noel McMurry. See you all on Saturday, TIGHT LINES.

Out for an hour yesterday evening. Had 7 lovely, perfect wee trout on a black pennel and gold head hares ear. None bigger than 7 inches but everyone special. Great to be back "on the great Moyola river where anglers sport and play". We have a fantastic natural resource at our disposal lets give her and her inhabitants the respect they deserve.
